Another shocking defensive display, we seemed to be completely incapable of marking anyone, making a tackle without fouling or tracking back. Maidenhead didn't look anything special (apart from their 7 who was the best player I've seen, for anybody, this season) but managed to score 6 and force another 4 or 5 decent saves from Purnell.
Going forward we looked good, especially Joe McClennan who was our MOTM and made plenty of chances but unfortunately you can't expect the forwards to have to score more and more goals just to make the scoreline look better because you're conceding so many at the other end.
I don't normally criticise managers but I have to comment on Bell, last night. He didn't seem to have any interaction with the players and just stood quietly on the touchline. His substitutions were strange to say the least, not seeming to have an interest in trying to win the match, until about 5 minutes from time, by which time we'd already conceded 5.
Last comment is my on-going whinge about the standards of refereeing, last night's ref and linesmen were so poor that it was almost embarrassing. Giving free-kicks and bookings for perfectly good tackles and missing blatant fouls and handballs 5 yards in front of them, giving throw-ins the wrong way, goal kicks when it should have been a corner etc. Not in any way biased as they were bad for both sides, just terrible.
The Flackwell Heath team and management were at the game and will probably be confident that they can get a result. Let's hope we can turn it round on Saturday as a few quid from a cup run might be enough to bring in a decent centre-half to pair with Jordan and try and shore things up at the back.
