its hard to tell really i was there and i left a little baffled how it went that bad that quick its weird because the old clique "on a different day" could be applied been tho it was a 6-0 drubbing. the first goal was an out and out goalkeeping error a lofted ball which Purnell let trough his hands and should have comfortably caught which then deflected of Slocombe 5 minuets later we missed a penalty, so after 10 minuets it could have been and probably should have been 1-0 to us. but shorty after we let in a seconds then everyone started arguing Purnell lost his concentration and it went down hill fast.
4 of the goals can be put down to Purnell making mistakes, 2 handling errors but 2 where just out and out positioning errors he is clearly trying to play a sweeper keeper role but he was staying 10 yards out of the box until the ball crossed the halfway line then trying to backtrack and follow the player at the same time and getting passed to easy.
i don't think it can be all blamed on Purnell tho. ok maybe his errors lost us the game but the way the rest of the team where playing and the lack of action from the staff didn't help. McGregor was hilarious as usual shouting at the ref and laird didn't even stand up till we where 2-0 down. then waiting until 7 minutes and 4-0 down to make any changes. the tactic of the day seemed to be pass the ball short from a goal kick spend 2 minuets passing it across the back then hoof it forward and lose it.
In summery it was a piss poor performance from everyone, picking the worse is hard but it was to be Purnell as he caused 4 of the goals. do you replace him next week? (as i understand he had a stinker last week to) or let him play and try and get his confidence back in a game we should win quite easy?

The thing is Steve we play with our fullbacks so far up the pitch which is great when attacking, but when the attack breaks down they leave acres of space behind them which the centre halves have to cover, this in turn leaves a bloody big hole in the centre which you have to rely on our midfielders to bust a gut to get back and cover, normally not too much of an issue because the majority of teams we play against do not exploit this, not so the case with Ebbsfleet.
We just seemed half a yard off the pace all game and Ebbsfleet broke very quickly and exposed us time and time again.
To be fair we had lots of possession just lacked the final killer ball, but when your score an og within the first couple of minutes and then fluff a penalty tamely at the keeper you get the feeling it just isn't going to be your day.
Lairdy chucked Hemmings on with 15 to go, i'm afraid I lost any hope I had by then and decided to go round my mums for a cup of tea so missed? the last two goals.
All in all very disappointing but I have no doubt we will bounce back next weekend in the cup. Brislington, prepare for the backlash!!!!!

MONEY something we can't compete with, having said that i think generally it was a bad day @ the office with to many individual errors apparently ebbsfleet have invested over 120k on their squad since relegation with 5 off there starting lineup on loan from clubs in the first/second division .
