I was under the impression that the recent club's extraordinary meeting was an attempt to increase revenue
and attendance in order to make the club sustainable ! In order to achieve this we have the comical situation where :
1) we cannot put out our best side because it would cost too much !
2) We are putting a team out to play in the league with no, or at best one, recognised centre-back !
3) Since the meeting we have signed another striker when we desperately need a defender !
4) Middleton, who we managed to get on dual registration from Bridgwater has decided he would rather turn out for Street !
I assume that the club think that we will increase attendances and attract much needed commercial income from the above,
personally I believe the opposite.
According to the club's Joke.... sorry, Facebook page since last season we have signed in one form or another,
2 keepers, 7 defenders, 11 midfielders and 5 strikers. Of these 1 keeper, 2 defenders, 2 midfielders and a striker
are playing for someone else, either on loan or dual registration.
Taking the above points into consideration :
1) How long will Ollie Knowles, Tristan Plummer and Jake Harris hang around knowing they cannot get a game, not because of
their ability, but because the club can't afford for them to play ?
2) Why haven't we replaced Jamie Price and Matt Villis when we have signed so many players for this season ?
3) If the financial constraints at the club are such that we can't afford such a large squad, surely we should have a basic squad
consisting of the best of 2 keepers, 5 defenders, 6 midfielders and 3 strikers. Injuries and suspensions to be covered by Academy players.
4) Had we concentrated on making sure we had adequate cover for each position point 4 would never have arisen, both Ollie Knowles and Chaz Hemmings
have let it be known that defending is not their natural position and would much prefer to play in their "normal" roles.
As I stated at the start, the above facts make me reluctant now to spend my hard-earned cash watching what I consider to be not our best team available,
I expect the sycophants from the Boardroom Appreciation Page... sorry, Facebook Page will say I am not entitled to an opinion if I don't travel to away games,
they expect everyone to accept this chaos and be grateful to them - or to stick to this forum as it is so negative !!! What a joke they are ! They truly do not
or cannot understand that this forum in the main indulges in constructive criticism as did the previous forum, which mysteriously closed down
(moderated by someone at the club I believe ?) They have the attitude of "I know best" and "I hear what you're saying but you're wrong".
I truly believe that this will be Craig Laird's last season here, the guy is being asked to work with both hands tied behind his back.
He has improved the squad year on year until now where we have the situation where he cannot put out his best team because of constraints that
exist because the Board has not been pro-active in promoting the club, don't they communicate with visiting directors as to how they achieve their
commercial backing and the initiatives they use to attract more people to their grounds ?
Finally a thank you to all of the players, particularly Ollie, Tristan and Jake who are probably wondering why they are still here when their talents are such
that they could be playing at a higher level. Not forgetting Kane who's passion and commitment is always evident. We have some very, very good players here,
who with the right support from the Board could bring success (and income) to the club.
